A semi-closed rebreather recirculates a portion of each breath through a scrubber that removes CO₂, while adding a metered flow of fresh gas. The result is far fewer bubbles, quieter diving and more gas per cylinder compared to open-circuit scuba. For wildlife encounters in Thailand — sharks, mantas, turtles and whale sharks — the reduced bubble noise changes the dynamic completely.

Andaman Sea hosts resident whale sharks, manta cleaning stations and grey reef shark aggregations. Diving these sites on SCR — quieter, with less bubble disturbance — produces noticeably different encounters than open-circuit.
