Try SCR

A Try SCR session is the easiest way to find out whether semi-closed rebreather diving is for you. Under direct instructor supervision, you will set up and check the Mares Horizon, complete a confined water familiarisation and make a shallow open water dive — all without any prior SCR experience.

What You Will Notice

  • Slightly different breathing sensation as gas is re-routed through the scrubber
  • Instructor stays close throughout — this is a guided experience, not a solo dive

From Setup to First Dive

The session starts with a full Horizon unit walkthrough — you will learn how the scrubber system and gas injection work before you ever put it in the water. In confined water, you practise breathing on the unit and get used to the reduced bubble output before moving to a shallow reef site for your open water dive.

  • Unit assembly — how to fit the Horizon, load the scrubber and check the system
  • Pre-dive checks — breathing circuit integrity, gas flow and bailout readiness
  • Lagoon familiarisation — breathing adaptation and buoyancy in shallow water
  • Open water dive — a guided dive on a shallow Andaman Sea reef site
  • Post-dive rinse and debrief — unit care and an honest assessment of whether SCR is right for you
