SSI Wreck Diving

Wrecks are some of the most compelling dive sites anywhere in the world. In Khao Lak, Boonsung Wreck is the local reference point for structure, fish density, and wreck-orientation thinking — history, marine life colonisation and the particular atmosphere of a structure that was once above water. The Wreck Diving Specialty teaches you to explore them safely, with proper orientation, penetration protocols and the situational awareness that wreck diving demands.

Exterior First, Penetration When Ready

Good wreck diving starts on the outside. Before any penetration, a thorough exterior survey establishes orientation, identifies hazards and maps the available access points. The course teaches this progressive approach — building familiarity with the structure before gradually moving inside with proper guideline technique and redundant lighting.

  • Wreck survey — exterior mapping, orientation landmarks and hazard identification
  • Penetration planning — light levels, silt conditions, access and exit routes
  • Guideline technique — laying and retrieving penetration lines safely
  • Buoyancy in confined spaces — controlling silt and maintaining visibility
  • Emergency procedures — loss of visibility, entanglement and separation protocols
