Train Future Assistant Instructors
The SSI Assistant Instructor Trainer rating allows you to teach and certify Assistant Instructor (AI) candidates and participate in the delivery of Instructor Training Courses under the guidance of a fully certified Instructor Trainer.
This course sharpens your teaching, evaluation, mentorship and leadership skills — and opens the door to the prestigiousSSI Instructor Trainer pathway.
Main Responsibilities You’ll Be Qualified For
- Teach & certify Assistant Instructor (AI) candidates
- Assist in Instructor Training Courses (ITC)
- Evaluate skill presentations & teaching sessions
- Mentor Divemasters & Instructor candidates
- Deliver academic, confined & open water workshops
- Support the Instructor Evaluation (IE) preparation process
Prerequisites & Experience
The AIT program is designed for experienced instructors who demonstrate strong training quality, safety, professionalism and leadership. If you are unsure whether you meet the prerequisites, we’re happy to review your logbook and qualifications.

Minimum Requirements
- Certified SSI Open Water Instructor (OWI)
- Active status & current liability insurance
- Minimum required training experience (per SSI standards)
- Documented teaching & assisting history
