Open Water Mermaid
SSI Ocean Mermaid
The SSI Ocean Mermaid course takes your mermaid skills from sheltered shallow water into the clear blue waters around Khao Lak. You will learn to glide, pose and move beautifully in real ocean conditions — reading water movement, managing current and interacting respectfully with the reef — all while staying safe, relaxed and in control.

What Changes in the Ocean
- Real water movement — currents, surge and open-water buoyancy
- Natural light and depth for dramatically different photos
- Marine life encounters — the ocean responds to your presence
- Greater freedom of movement without pool or sheltered shallow water boundaries

Skills and Knowledge
Moving Beautifully in Real Ocean Conditions
The ocean adds variables that confined-water sessions cannot replicate. Current changes your streamlining needs. Surge affects your poses. Depth shifts your buoyancy. The Ocean Mermaid course teaches you to work with these forces rather than against them — so you move more naturally and create better images in the open water than you ever could in a pool.
- Safe entries and exits — sheltered shallow water wades, boat entries and beach exits in a monofin
- Reading conditions — current direction, surge patterns and choosing the right moment
- Open-water finning — adapting dolphin kick technique for current-assisted and current-opposing movement
- Depth and buoyancy — managing your position at depth without a pool floor to reference
- Dynamic posing — working with natural light angles, reef backgrounds and water movement
- Buddy skills and surface support — managing safety for yourself and your partner in open water
- Reef interaction — how to move near coral without causing damage
